IS the Brachistochrone the most effective Potential Energy curve for Vault?

Time to really bake some noodles! From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The curve of fastest descent is not a straight or polygonal line (blue) but a cycloid (red). In physics and mathematics, a brachistochrone curve (from Ancient Greek βράχιστος χρόνος (brákhistos khrónos) 'shortest time'),[1] or c...

The Backwards Bicycle Oh, man, did this influence my coaching especially when I was club coaching. https://youtu.be/MFzDaBzBlL0?si=GdL6P1hB_Jm--Cnu Physical activity memory is different than other memory. It is more in the category of 'hardwired' than other memory. So once you learn to ride a bike i...

Re: Let's Talk

Visualization in sports. I find this very important for vault because of the nature of vaulting and that many drills are of specific parts of the whole. Also there are also only so many vaults one can do but visualization can be done even while tired.

Not exactly in the same category as your mental emphasis but I like the information included.

Vault Physics – The Vertical Line and Potential Energy Curves My name is William E Rieffer. I vaulted at Ohio State and while there studied physics. I find what I call the “folk” physics of the pole vault to be littered with problems. I took me six years of studying the system to hopefully rectify t...

Re: Petrov Model vs. Lavillenie Model

Having read through this thread again... 2. The PM is explained in more scientific terms, according to the Laws of Physics. Notice that I did not say that it is scientifically superior to the LM. It's just that there's very little documentary evidence thus far regarding the scientific merits of the ...

Re: Petrov Model vs. Lavillenie Model

I have clarified my position on the value of the potential energy value and curves in vaulting. This sets goals for any and all "techniques". SInce this thread we've had Mondo take over. Doesn't take off like Bubka, doesn't swing like Bubka, doesn't exit the pole with the body technique of...

Video - Pole Vault - Conceptual Physics

https://youtu.be/yH3JdGb0znc This is one start in an ongoing project. That the applicable physics of the event is presented accurately. There are repeated misconceptions about the physics of the event that are repeated over and over either out of ignorance or for personal gain. Even in the allotted ...

Physics- The Bottom Arm in the Immediate Post Take Off

Physics of The Bottom Arm in the Immediate Post Take Off The immediate post take off is regulated by the dispersion (not loss) of initial kinetic energy into 3 areas. 1) residual kinetic energy (horizontal veloocity) 2) pole energy and 3) potential energy. The lead arm can play a role in the directi...
