Hey man, The best advice I can give you is to not let it get you down. As a freshman last year in college, I only improved my PR from 13'6 to 14'1 and I was pretty disappointed because I thought I was good enough to go much higher. I just used this disappointment to push me to work harder over the s...

Hey, all good thoughts. Thinking about my analysis some more (at vault practice today...), I see that one part of my analysis was flawed. Initially, the force of the box on the tip all basically in the x-direction, so my argument about external forces is true. But soon after the pole begins to bends...

Hey dude, I'm a bit of a physics nut and a vaulter. Here is a cool paper I found about takeoff efficiency: http://pukashell.net/kimo/polevault/linthorne.pdf Also, it might be useful to try to find some of the articles in its references, but most of the publications are pretty obscure. Based on my kn...

You shouldn't really TRY to change anything about your vault as you move up poles. If you are blowing through the previous pole, moving up your grip (and your step back accordingly) while doing everything else the same should put you exactly where you want to be. The real key is not getting psyched ...

Big sticks but no PR to go with them
I am 6'1" and weight 170 lbs. I am currently gripping at 15'3 on a 15'7" 175 lb pole from 7 rights (im left handed). Sadly though, even with this grip height, I have only managed to clear 14'1" so far. With this kind of grip height I should be clearing much much higher than that. My r...

Yeah, if you don't collapse the arm, it will force your body out to the side as the pole unbends. This makes it impossible to invert completely and you will just flag out to the side. Once you get your legs up near your hands, drop the shoulders, bring that arm in, and pull. The sign that you are br...

Sounds like the main thing you need to work on right now is the plant. You have to fix things in the order which they occur in the vault or else it will be counter productive. You must plant correctly in order to give yourself a chance to start swinging. The problem with planting is that once you ge...

Im assuming that you lock your bottom arm out in an attempt to bend the pole and get into the pit (correct me if im wrong in this assumption). Instead of pushing out with the bottom arm towards the pit, concentrate on pushing up with both hands at the takeoff. This will not only solve your problem o...
