Takeoff boxes - Yay or Nay?
Hi everyone I made some takeoff boxes for training, and wanted to get the community's thoughts. I can find lots of info about LJ/HJ training with boxes and ramps, but very little with the vault. I made two boxes, high and low, both with the same top deck dimensions of 1.2m x 0.6m. The low one has a ...

Coaching/Athlete Psychology Book Recommendations?
Hi everyone I'm looking to expand my coaching knowledge about coaching psychology, athlete psychology, competition psychology, or general sports psychology. Doesn't have to be specific to pole vault or even track and field. Topics I'm looking for: Training motivation Game day/competition metal state...

Re: New vaulter, cannot hold on to pole
^ That's where we started, and she was still having issues. When we did the 1 step into the sand she was only holding ~4 inches above standing grip, and she would still not hang on the pole.

New vaulter, cannot hold on to pole
Hi everyone I'm coaching a beginner athlete that is just starting out, and is already having a lot of issues. She is very excited about learning, almost to the point where her own ambition is actually getting in her way, making her very frustrated very quickly. She is only 3 training sessions in, an...

Re-painting and re-finishing old javelins UPDATED WITH PICS!
Hi everyone The track club I'm with has a pile of old javelins (by pile, I mean like 15, mostly steel 400g and 600g). All are in pretty poor shape, paint is nearly gone and the grips are held together with tape and glue. I'd like to paint and re-grip all these javelins, but need advice on how to do ...

Re: Need bigger poles (video)- Longer or stiffer?
i am not suggesting that you are portly -BUT - you need to lose weight Ouch :o But truthfully, that's going to be key for me moving forward. Last year I played AFL instead of track, and got banged up enough (1 broken rib and 2 dislocated ribs from rucking) to want to put on more muscle mass to prot...

Need bigger poles (video)- Longer or stiffer?
Hey guys I've just got back into jumping after taking a few years break after college, and I bought a pole series I thought (at the time) would be on the large side. After about 4 months of jumping...I've gotten on the biggest pole I have and need something bigger. Here's the pole series I currently...

Re: Vaulter "getting stuck", not finishing swing
You bring up a good point, can't expect a proper top end when the first half needs work. Thanks, Kirk.
Until then, high bar work it is!
Any other suggestions?

Vaulter "getting stuck", not finishing swing
Hey guys I'm coaching a vaulter (16yo, ~5'11", ~160lbs) and he's been vaulting about a year, once or twice a week. The pole he's using is a 13'6" 160. The pole is too soft but it is the only one we have. I seem to have hit a road block in coaching him. As you can see in the video, his hips...

Re: Sky's the limit for Sarina athletes (Australia)
It's been 3 years since my last post on this site, and roughly the same amount of time from the last time I picked up a pole. I've since graduated college and started my career. My career ended up taking me to Queensland, Australia, where I've been living for the last year. On a whim, I decided to l...
