Re: Vaulting to be side??
My best guess without a video is you are either blocking out (putting your bottom hand way in front of you at takeoff) or planting off to the side. There are a lot of other causes for this (such as pulling with both hands after takeoff), but these are usually the most common for beginners. First and...

Re: Need help with vault, pole selection
Surprised no one has commented on the attempts by the coach to use the 'tap'. Clearly demonstrates how dangerous it can be - in this car it could have resulted in a broken neck! I agree that in this case the tap was dangerous. That pole was way too big of a jump and wouldn't have been safe no...

Re: Another day of practice
Looks much better to me, might be time to try the bigger pole again! if you jump like that you should have no problem. Hard to tell from a distance but you might still be reaching forward for the box a tad. Overall looks much better than the bail last week

Re: State Qualifying jump...want to go higher!
Looking at your other jump, I'd definitely agree with both you and becca. Your hands are late at takeoff and you loose a lot of your momentum before you leave the ground because of it. To me your bottom hand sticks out just as much as your top one. Get that step out and take off earlier and you shou...

Re: Need help with vault, pole selection
Hmm this is an interesting one. Part of me wants to tell you that you really should probably get a 14' 150 or 155. The 14' 145 is way to small for you (and illegal), but a lot of your jumps on the 13'6" 155 looked ok depth wise (which is weird because they should offer similar resistance). You ...

Re: Changing from short run to a long run
How old are you boys vaulters? If they're jumping between 7'-8' they might be better served sticking at 4 for a while, there's probably still room to improve from that run and help them build reps and proper form. If you feel they need to move, try to put them in a situation where they feel as confi...

Re: First post: Help?
Good to hear that you're starting off pretty well and seem to be enjoying it! First and foremost, I have to URGE you not to use a pole under your weight - even if its just 5 lbs over and you're gripping down - unless you're specifically told to by an experienced vault coach and being supervised. Tha...

Re: Why did this happen?
One of the best responses ever on this website, by at track. Nice first post! It is hard for kids who are used to striding into the plant to get the hands up and the feet down quickly. Work on plant drills with a stubby pole or broomstick at home, emphasizing speed and timing of the hands/feet. You...

Re: Why did this happen?
Check out the picture below. First frame is your 3rd step out. It lands underneath you and is a decent step. 2nd frame is the 2nd step out. Your foot lands way in front telling me you're reaching and probably loosing some speed. Then there's your last step. Lands way in front of you, huge reach. You...
