Re: the dark secret(s) every pole vaulter knows...
I bet she is faster than all the other girl pole vaulters on her team, and I bet she jumps higher than them too ...she does! my daughter is extremely fast AND a good vaulter, except she's nowhere near as good as the terribly unathletic guys on her team the para-phrasing alters my intent. She consis...

Re: the dark secret(s) every pole vaulter knows...
You are making the mistake of confusing pole vault with a math problem. Sure you can plug in speed, height, weight and get some great numbers but without technique, they are irrelevant....and no matter how co-ordinated, flexible, strong the former sprinter/aspirant pole vaulter is, they still need h...

Re: Istanbul Predictions
Any non-american internet streams for the pole vault final? I found this one: http://linkupvideos.com/watch/2c237acf34af9f8fe3ee/2012-IAAF-World-Indoor-Championships-Athletics-Live-Stream (streams British Eurosports...works better from my direct cable connection than from my Wi-fi). Alana who? Has ...

Re: Istanbul Predictions
My Istanbul predictions are quite different:
(1) Yelena Isinbayeva
(2) Holly Bleasdale
(3) Yarisley Silva
(and Alana Boyd a good chance to sneak with one of the medals).

Re: New IAAF rule
....hopefully the last post about this! :-)
...at the most recent ANSW event, last Thursday night, athletes were not stopped doing drills with their poles prior to jumps! (and a number of athletes got pb's).

Re: New IAAF rule
but that this rule will not be implemented in a way that will really affect athletes I wish your sources would tell ANSW officials! :-) At state junior and youth champs last weekend, they were literally not allowed to touch their poles between jumps. My daughter asked the officials and suggested th...

Re: New IAAF rule
I think it would be helpful if the pole vault community internationally contacted their national technical officer to note their concern/ask for an interpretation.
This will let the IAAF technical officials know how problematic this is.

Re: New IAAF rule
I got a positive response from Athletics Australia's (AA) chief technical officer (though understandably non-committal at this stage). My daughter's coach tells me there are now a number of emails between Australia's top PV coaches and AA technical officials. It will be apparently be discussed at th...

Re: New IAAF rule
It is being enforced such that the pole is not allowed to be picked up before an attempt is made. .....last weekend, 2 'no heights' from my daughter's training squad were by athletes whose first height was 45min or more after the comp began.....so at least that time since picking up the pole. I am e...

New IAAF rule
I am not sure if this the appropriate forum....but would be interested in views/interpretations of the new IAAF rule that forbids the use of the pole for 'practice' after a competition has begun. see: http://www.iaaf.org/mm/Document/06/28/26/62826_PDF_English.pdf Page 168, point (b), below was added...
